BEACH volleyball star Karley Hynes was last night selected as the August winner in the Bendigo Advertiser-WIN Television Sports Star of the Year.
The judging panel for the long-running awards, proudly sponsored by mecu credit union, met at WIN Television's offices.
Hynes teamed with Queensland's Taliqua Clancy to win bronze at the world youth beach volleyball championships in Portugal.
The 13th seeds became the first Australian line-up to win a medal at the youth titles since 2006.

Ryosuke Irie won the bronze medal in the men's 200-meter backstroke at the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships on Friday.
Irie touched the wall in 1 minute, 55.21 seconds while reigning Olympic champion Ryan Lochte led the United States to a 1-2 finish, winning the race ahead of Tyler Clary in 1:54.12. Clary clocked 1:54.90. World record holder Aaron Peirsol of the United States failed to advance to the final.
